About the

Dark Veil Tarot Reader

Hello there and welcome to Dark Veil Tarot!

My name is Ephie (pronounced Eff-EE), I prefer to go by Eph (..Eff). I am a tarot reader.

I am not a psychic, I do not have any special or magical powers. I am not a fortune teller, I can't see your future or your past. I can't read your mind. I'm not speaking to the dead or delivering messages from your great granny. Sorry.

I am a tarot reader. I read tarot cards. That's it, that's all. All I'm doing is reading the cards. If you're looking for a medium or psychic, you're in the wrong place, I'm afraid. It's best that we part ways right here. Off, you pop!

Still here? I am a tarot reader, probably not like the others you've seen - I wouldn't know what you've seen because I'm not psychic! I am simply a conduit for the messages I receive when I'm reading my tarot cards.

I first became interested in reading tarot as a child, possibly at around 7-8 years old. My mother had a little book about reading tarot cards on her bookshelf, I immediately asked if I could have it and she said ...no. She forbode me from reading it and told me never to touch it again because tarot was not for children, the whole bookshelf was now off limits. I pouted and placed the book back onto the shelf. I then returned later that day and I pilfered the little tarot book right off that newly forbidden bookshelf... hehehe! So there begins the start of my tarot journey.

For context: "The Fool" is card zero of the Tarot deck. The Fool is the blissfully unaware and ignorant character setting off on their journey at the start of the deck. On their journey, the fool will encounter each card of the deck as a challenge to overcome or a lesson to learn. We are all the fool. The fool is us and the tarot deck is our journey and the numerous challenges we encounter throughout our lives. Some of us never make it through the whole deck and some of us repeat this journey over and over and over and...

I'm not afraid to admit that I didn't really begin to properly understand the meanings of the cards for the next decade or so. I knew the meanings of course, but I didn't truly understand them. I was too young and inexperienced at being alive to really know what the meanings were. It was only after 20 years of running the tarot journey gauntlet, from starting out on my life journey as the little 9 year old fool that I was back then, which fully initiated me into the fold of these ubiquitously 'spooky' cards. Still to this day, more than 30 years after my initial introduction, I continue to discover new meanings and insights into the tarot, almost daily. We never stop learning and growing, after all.

Despite what many readers preach about reading the tarot: there is no right or wrong way to do so. Each card is a universe of its own. The meanings are numerous and endless. No two readers will ever see the same message in any sequence of cards.

Anyone can learn the meanings of the cards and absolutely everyone can read tarot, if they tried. However, not everyone who does, is prepared to traverse and live through the entirety of the fools journey.

The fools journey is one of blood, sweat, tears, sorrow & pain. Patience, death, rebirth, destruction & ascension. There's also joy, peace, bliss, union and wish fulfilment amongst the many other things within the journey that the tarot presents to the fool, filled with many trials and the guidance to pass through them, alike.

Not all gifts are given away for free. Those who have walked the long & winding path of the fools journey, have paid their dues. As, have I. I know what some reading this may be thinking right now. No, I have not "sold my soul to the Devil" in exchange for any gifts. The Devil doesn't exist and my soul belongs only to myself and to God. I earned my ability to read the cards in the way I do by making it through both the good and bad experiences portrayed within the symbolism of each card and also by applying the lessons hidden throughout.

I prefer not to use spreads or the structured & complicated set ways to read, which are so common. it's just not me, I go my own way. I intuitively pull as many and read in whichever order feels right. I don't even keep my cards in any order within the deck, how they fall and present is all part of the message from spirit.

I do not just read & guess for the querant, I prefer to confirm and ask questions regarding their specific situation during readings. Context means a great deal and the more context I have the clearer the message I read because I'm not having to guess or clarify with extra cards - which may even be completely wrong without any context. The message is there, I'm just not getting it because I've gone down the wrong avenue. This wastes both mine and the querants time. Which we've no time for!

It is down to each querant to decide how much information they wish to share and I am happy to receive none if that's what the querant prefers. My job is only to read what I see in the cards, and that's what I'll do. Every reading comes with guaranteed confidentiality and I'll be taking many secrets to my grave. I do not keep records or notes for any of my clients and my memory is very poor.

It is always a pleasure to have the opportunity to read for someone, especially if it helps them. Sometimes, the querant may leave a session feeling very unhappy initially, but they always come back to say thanks, eventually. It can be difficult to hear the things we don't want to admit or face. If it's a trigger and you're experiencing anger or negative emotions, that's a sign of an issue which needs to be healed within. Look it right in its eye and see it for whatever it truly is.

Sometimes we need everything to fall apart inside and around us, so that we can rebuild a happier life and self from the rubble and ashes.

The tower, which is the most notoriously feared card of the 78 amongst readers, is actually one of my personal favourites because I know good things will be coming to me after the destruction. I know I'll soon have an opportunity for transformation, into a better version of myself or my current situation. There are, in my opinion, far worse things hidden in the cards than the tower. Again, its all read within context. No two readers are ever alike.

Lastly. Many people enquire about the "spirit" which I commune with during my readings. "Spirit" is not a singular entity, they are not the spirit of a deceased person. Spirit has never been alive but has walked as a living being upon this earth innumerable times. Spirit is as old as existence itself. They have no name yet own every name that has ever existed. They are neither good nor evil, but are capable of both. Spirit and I have a very deep connection, one based upon mutual love and respect for each other. Spirit works with me in particular because I made a direct connection by visiting the source of all consciousness and purely because they are rewarded through my personal growth and the positive impact I make in the lives of others through Spirits guidance. Spirit is capable of good and bad, just like every human is. Also, just like every human does, Spirit prefers positive energy and feelings over negative or painful ones. Both spirit and I prefer positive over negative energy but we understand that sometimes we must encounter or go through negative experiences in order to achieve what's ultimately best and for reaching a higher positive state. This is a running theme throughout the Tarot.

Positive and negative energy are simply two sides of the same coin. Much like life and death, one cannot exist without the other yet one is not inherently good or bad, nothing can live forever yet without life, existence itself ceases to exist. We must accept both and find the balance of positive and negative within ourselves.

Our goal in reading tarot cards for others is not to pacify or placate the ego of the querants with what they want to hear. Our aim is to aid the in the personal growth and development in the life journeys of those seeking counsel outside of themselves, from the 78 cards of the tarot.

I'm not here to fuck around.
